Volkswagen launches a new, more accessible variant of the Tayron in India on July 10, giving the seven-seat SUV a lower entry point than the fully loaded R-Line it has sold since debut. The teasers confirm a non-R-Line trim that keeps the core mechanicals intact while trimming the styling and equipment to bring the price down.

What changes on the new variant

The clearest giveaway in the teasers is a new five-spoke alloy wheel design, likely a size down from the R-Line’s 19-inch units. The bumpers look simpler and less aggressive, and the R-Line’s signature R badging on the doors and steering wheel is gone. Inside, Volkswagen shows dual-tone upholstery in place of the R-Line’s all-black cabin.

Powertrain stays the same

Mechanically, nothing is lost. The new variant retains the 2.0-litre turbo-petrol engine making 201 bhp (204 PS) and 320 Nm, paired with a seven-speed DSG dual-clutch automatic and all-wheel drive. That means the cheaper Tayron drives like the R-Line — a key point for buyers who want the performance without paying for the top trim’s cosmetics.

Expected pricing

The R-Line currently sits at ₹46.99 lakh (ex-showroom). Industry expectations put the new variant roughly ₹2-3 lakh below that, in the ₹44-45 lakh bracket, though Volkswagen will confirm the final figure at launch. Even so, features like the free-standing touchscreen, digital driver’s display, ambient lighting and panoramic sunroof are expected to carry over.
